A Message From President Scott Dumas
While the Houston area, and now the States of Louisiana and Arkansas continue to deal with Hurricane Harvey, it is with a heavy heart I report to you the Houston Police Officer, Steve Perez, who tragically drowned while attempting to report to his work station, was a graduate of the 210th Session.
Chief Art Acevedo, while choking back tears was quoted as saying, “Steve was one of the sweetest people I’ve met in this department. I’ve only been here nine months and we have 6,500 employees. I knew who Steve Perez was because he was a sweet, gentle public servant.” It was also reported his wife tried to convince him to stay home but Sgt. Perez told her that “he had work to do.” All of us in this profession give, but some have given it all. Please keep the family of Sgt. Steve Perez in your thoughts and prayers as well as the other first responders and civilians who continue to put themselves in harms-way as they support the communities impacted by this historic and tragic event.
